Find out where the incision is placed to perform a septoplasty to correct a deviated septum

I've talked previously about where the incision line is placed during an open rhinoplasty. Have you ever wondered where the incision is placed to perform a septoplasty to correct a deviated nasal septum?

During an isolated septoplasty (that is, without also performing a rhinoplasty) only one incision is needed to perform the surgery. The incision is hidden just inside one of the nostrils. The photo below shows an intra-operative view of a patient's left nostril where I've marked the planned septoplasty incision line.

The incision allows access to the front edge of septal cartilage where the overlying skin lining can be gently elevated off of the septal cartilage and bone.

In some septo-rhinoplasty cases I will forgo this additional incision and address septal deviations via the the columellar incision itself.

In an upcoming post I'll show a before and after video of this patient's septoplasty.
