See how Radiesse skin filler can be used to treat prominent smile lines or nasolabial folds.

In my last post I discussed the case of a patient of mine who had lower eyelid and cheek facial fat grafting to treat lower eyelid bags. Today we'll look into how I addressed her prominent nasolabial folds.

Asymmetric Nasolabial Creases

The photo below shows how our patient has asymmetrically prominent smile lines (also called nasolabial folds). Her left nasolabial fold is both deeper and extends further down toward the corner of her mouth.

Although we we able to harvest fat to treat the patient's lower eyelid and cheek the patient didn't have enough fat available to harvest to address her nasolabial folds. Also, for well defined creases like this, fat transfer isn't as successful as more straightforward filler placement. Given the asymmetry more filler was placed on the patient left side in order to compensate for the deeper crease on this side.

In the after photographs both above and below you can see how the nasolabial shadowing caused by the prominent creases has been effaced.

There is a more youthful, smooth transition from her lower eyelid to cheek and then onto her jawline.

The goal isn't to totally obscure the smile lines as this would appear quite unnatural (even children have these folds).
